How to Use This Calculator
1. Measure Your Area
Measure the length and width of your garden bed or landscaping area in feet. For irregular shapes, break them into rectangles and calculate separately.
2. Choose Your Depth
Most landscaping projects require 2-4 inches of mulch. Use 2-3 inches for general coverage and 3-4 inches for better weed suppression.
3. Select Mulch Type
Different mulch types have different pricing. Choose the type that best fits your landscaping needs and budget.
Mulching Tips
- Apply mulch after removing weeds and grass from the area
- Keep mulch 2-3 inches away from plant stems and tree trunks
- Refresh mulch annually as it decomposes and fades
- Order 10% extra to account for settling and uneven areas
- Consider edging to keep mulch in place
